4 Stars LCD Viewing in the Kitchen
For years I had a Sony CRT under cabinet TV for the kitchen. alas it died. The AudioVox 7″ LCD has some advantages and some deficiencies compared with the Sony.

First of all the picture isn’t as good. LCDs have limited viewing angles. Off axis they are dark and/or lack contrast. Viewed from a fixed position like on your desk or on your living room wall this isn’t much of a problem. You set it up once for your viewing location and all’s well. But a kitchen TV is not really watched that way. You leave it on the Fox News or CNN and look at the screen only when you hear some story come on. You tend to stand up and move about in the kitchen so when you watch it you are usually in some position for which the picture was not aimed.

So with a CRT TV I could just look at the little bright sharp screen from wherever I was at the time. But with an LCD screen I have to adjust it in order to watch it - every time. Even when optimally adjusted the LCD isn’t as good as the CRT was. I should have gotten the 9″ model.

The AudioVox however has a couple other excellent features. It has an AM-FM radio. This is handy. It has a digital clock. Also handy. It has a timer - very, very handy in the kitchen. The DVD player is less useful but its ability to play CDs is nice.

I have it set up with NTSC (analog) cable and I miss the program guide available on ATSC (digital) cable. I don’t suppose that’s a fault of the unit but of my cable configuration.

It was a bit difficult to install because unlike a a regular TV that you just set on a table, this one you have to mount under a cabinet. This requires a little woodworking skill. The paper template is meant to be placed on the bottom shelf of your cabinet, but most electric drills are too tall to be used inside a kitchen cabinet. This means you will have to drill from underneath. This isn’t an insoluable problem but it does take a bit of figuring. The default configuration expects precise alignment. If the bolts came up from the bottom rather than down from the top it would be lot easier to install - but that would leave nuts on the floor of the cabinet instead of just nearly flat bolt heads.

1 Star Preliminary Review
I’m having problems with the picture quality on this VE727 LCD TV. It is a 2007 model and I constantly have to adjust the angle of the picture to get a fairly recognizable picture or fool with the controls excessivly. Neither of which do I like to have to do. I’m calling the number reference on my installation instructions for initial help. Results will follow.

5 Stars Fully Satisfied
We had to return the first one we received from another vendor because it failed after a couple of hours. We ordered this one from Amazon because the other vendor, although less expensive, had no more in stock. We’ve never been disappointed with Amazon. The TV has been working and is convenient and of high quality, consistent with the price. We’re completely pleased with the purchase.

5 Stars Very pleased.
This item was just what I needed. I have a built in desk in my kitchen where I have my computer. I had a bigger TV on the counter top next to the computer taking up lots of room. This small, under the counter drop down screen is just perfect for me. I still have my TV right there where I need it, next to my computer but now hanging under the cabinet and freeing up counter space. Wish I had known of such a TV years ago.

4 Stars Where’s the antenna jack?
Outstanding performance except for apparently low AM radio sensitivity. Could use an external antenna jack. I owned the previous version and it had jacks for external antennae.

5 Stars Pioneer PDP-5020FD
This TV can only be described as awesome. I’ve now had the TV a little over a month. It was delivered in 4 days via CEVA white glove delivery which was great. All I had to do was plug in the HDMI lead from my cable DVR and the power lead and turn it on. The setup menu is really easy to use to customize the settings to one’s liking in a short time. I looked at many brands and models of TV’s for around 3 months before I finally decided on this one. The picture on the Pioneer was the best I saw by far in side by side comparisons that I observed in big box stores. The picture looks even more awesome in my family room entertainment center. My old DVD movies are like watching the original movie in a theater.

5 Stars I’ve started watching too much TV
The quality of this Pioneer plasma is so astounding that I find myself watching too much television - if for nothing else than to gaze at the glorious images produced by this HD plasma. Even though I work in the television industry and spend my days staring at a TV, I find myself watching even more at night.

The images are clean, the colors are true, and motion replicates that pleasant blur found in film. And it seems to smooth out that crunchy “video feel” one can find on many LED or lower end plasmas.

If you can stomach the price, it’s well worth the money. Then beware of your free time …

5 Stars Kuro 5020 Review after 1 week
I purchased this TV along with a Pioneer BDP-51 Blu-Ray player and couldn’t be happier. First off, I think the Blu-ray player and TV work well communicating together since even old dvd movies such as the Godfather look fantastic on this tv. In regards to the TV, I am impressed with the picture quality. It is even better than how it looked at my local Best Buy store. I have the setting on what Pioneer calls ‘Optimum.’ This has basically taken any errors out of my hand. It adjusts the picture based on the format of the input, lighting of the room and content on screen. Every channel I watch looks great (even the non-high def channels). Another mentionable item is glare - simply this tv doesn’t have any. I was worried about plasmas when I was shopping tv’s due to the supposed glare. The Pioneer has some sort of anti-glare coating that virtually elimiates any room glare (my tube tv had much more glare). The best LCD out there, Samsung, has signifantly more glare. Additionally, this tv has the best black level of any tv I have seen. Often times the tv’s you see in the store will have these great bold colors, but anywhere it is supposed to be black, the tv has a grey color. The Pioneer has a perfect black level. I am guessing that is why they call it KURO - Japenese = Black.

5 Stars Great TV
Pro: Very black contrast. Sharp picture. Great for PS3 gaming.

Con: Slight glare you wouldnt get from most LCD’s.

Overall very happy with the purchase.

5 Stars Super tv
This tv is great! I am so happy with it I don’t even look at tv’s when I am shopping any more. I already have “the top of the line”. The picture is perfect. My son recommended this tv and I am so thankful that he “Knows his stuff”. I would advise anyone to purchase it.

Techcraft Veneto Series ABS60 TV Stand

Techcraft Veneto Series ABS60 TV Stand

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Beautiful TV Stand
We just received the TV stand today. The package is excellent and my husband loved the facts that all the parts were packaged and labeled individually. The directions were o.k., weren’t great. When finished, it looks beautiful and it is sturdy. The doors were a bit annoying to align. Overall, we like it a lot.

5 Stars Perfect
Quick and easy assembly. Very sturdy and looks good. Goes perfectly with my 40 inch flat panel.

4 Stars tv stand
wasn’t hard to put together, but took long. Looks good, get alot of compliments on it.

4 Stars Veneto Series Stand
This is a heavy piece of furniture and is the perfect size for my 55 inch Sony Rear Projection TV. The picture makes the stand look like it has a cherry finish, but it is closer to black. The center compartments are open (no doors) and that is very good for my receiver, as it generates a lot of heat.

The unit was shipped on time with no damage, and all hardware was in the box.

I would go 5 stars, but the right door hangs a little crooked (slants down 1/8 inch on the top from right to left)…not enough to bother me, but drives the wife crazy.

I would buy it again.

4 Stars Great Stand
I just bought this stand the other day and completed the assembly in about 2 hours. It is an absolute sturdy stand if it is assembled properly. The directions to assemble it are really vague and do not provide and verbage for putting it together. It just includes pictures of what pieces need to get put together with other pieces. The stand is pretty heavy once it is fully assembled. The color of the stand is very unique. It has this antique black feel to it, so it is totally black with spots of brown on it. I personally liked the way it looks. One of the pieces of wood had a piece of laminate come off, so I had to use touch-up paint to correct it. I think its a great stand, and the assembly was fairly easy.

5 Stars It’s a fine $28 DVD player
It’s cute and compact, easy to set up, and works fine. Don’t expect something really high-tech and fancy and you won’t be disappointed. The remote control is overly complex, but is easy to figure out.

1 Star Stay away! Scratches DVDs!
We bought this dvd because it was the cheapest multizone dvd. Indeed, sometimes when you try to save money you end up losing money. It took me some time to find the code for removing the zone limitations, but I finally managed it. However, after a while I noticed scratches on some dvds. I was unsure for a while until I put in a brand new dvd and took it out scratched!

Stay away from this dvd player!

5 Stars Coby DV Player

It works Great And easy to install IN 80 years old and put in by my seft. It well worth the money/

1 Star Worked for 6 Months– Now it Won’t Power Up
Worst purchase of my life. Bought the thing thinking I got a great deal, and boy that taught me a lesson: You get what you pay for. It worked for about 6 months, and now won’t even power up. I’ve lost the DVD that was in there…so now I have to break the thing open, just to “eject” the movie. It started making a strange sound towards the end, almost loud enough to disturb the peace. Definitely loud enough to ruin the movie. If I could do it over again, (and I now have to do it over again), I’d spend a little extra and get a proper DVD player, from a legitimate manufacturer (with a good warranty).

5 Stars Super little machine for the price
We bought this DVD about 18months back to watch DVDs from UK and Asia and its been magic! we dont expect it to last indefinitely given the price but it was easy to install and set up and plays perfectly. No complaints at all! excellent value and well worth it even if it does only last a couple of years

Sharp Aquos LC42D64U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Sharp Aquos LC42D64U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Once again, Sharp, a leader in LCD technology, establishes a new design standard for LCD TVs. With a screen size class of 42″, the AQUOS LC-42D64U raises the bar by fitting large screen sizes into incredibly small footprints. By changing the layout of circuits inside the LCD panel and by reducing the number of parts, Sharp engineers developed the Slim-line design which reduces depth by 25%, allowing placement of the LC-42D64U in virtually any setting. The LC-42D64U utilizes Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View / Black TFT Panel with multi-pixel technology, providing 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and 4ms response time. The LC-42D64U features built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners and includes 3 HDMI (version 1.3) inputs, compatible with 1080p signals, a PC input and 2 HD component video inputs. Side terminals are included for wall-mounting convenience as well as RS-232C input for control.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great HDTV…
We purchased this TV for $1400 (with an extended warranty) about a year ago and have been more than happy with it. 42″ is just right for a small apartment or condo, and coupled with the wall attachment, looks great above our fireplace. HD cable television looks awesome with the television, as does our PS3 blu-ray player. For the price, this is definitely one of the better televisions out there. Granted, there are better, but you will have to spend more for them.

1 Star Thin Grey Line Through Center of TV 3 months after warranty expired
My original LC42D64U experienced a thin grey line through the center of the tv screen. It is not a banding issue as its vertical in nature. This issue was experienced by many buyers as evidenced by a simple google search. It apparently is a join issue between the panels.

The only reason I would recommend this tv and sharp is that Sharps customer service was excellent. Emails were replied to within hours, English was spoken clearly and I was given a brand new model minus shipping costs within 2 days of reporting this issue, even though I was our of warranty.

As for the television itself, the picture is excellent, and the amount of inputs are perfect.

1 Star 30 Mins out off the box it broke
TV broke in first half hour of use, Sharp sent some guy who buckled it in to the backseat of his mini-van to fix it. Would not replace the set, I’m pretty upset becuase the NEW tv I bought lasted a couple mins and now I own a refurb that has been cracked open and repaired. Don’t buy a TV from this company, crappy products and horrible customer service.

1 Star Bad design, bad Sharp customer service
This TV has no channel search function. Also, there is no way to get it to save a channel so you can flip through the channels. I called Sharp who said that it was set in “store” mode (as in a display model in a store). They indicated that it was a common problem, but the only way to fix it was to contact their “dispatch” department who would talk me through a factory reset. Not the reset that is on the menu of course, some special reset. Problem is, they are only open weekdays. I am one of those rare people who actually works on weekdays. Since the dispatch people are obviously going to read a script anyway, Sharp should either have them available on weekends when people need them, or give the script to their weekend customer service reps. Either way, this is a brand to avoid.

Also, I bought from Amazon.com directly, not from their affiliated merchants, I don’t know why this TV would be in store mode.

1 Star what a piece of overpriced junk
Ater setting t.v. up and turning it on, a big puff of smoke came out from behind the back, and then nothing. Had to return for refund. Bought a polaroid 37 in. and it is wonderful.
